5 Best Things To Do In Koh Phangan

The large island of Koh Phangan is located just off the east coast of Thailand, between the two other popular Thai islands of Koh Samui and Ko Tao.

Most well known for its world famous full moon parties, this island is much more than just a party spot. In fact, most of the time it is peaceful and chilled.

From palm fringed, white-sand beaches to spectacular waterfalls, this really is a little piece of paradise.

There are also some great dive sites to explore, as well as plenty of really nice bars and eateries with some epic viewpoints. Perfect to relax and enjoy the amazing sunsets.

We spent five days exploring all the best things to do on Koh Phangan. So from the beaches to the viewpoints, here’s everything you need to plan your trip.

1. Beach Hop

If you’re heading to the Thai islands, then one of the top things to do on Koh Phangan is to explore all of the best beaches.

Moreover, if you are looking for that paradise setting that you have always dreamed of, then Koh Phangan delivers.

With soft white sand, clear blue water and lush green palm trees, what’s not to like! Koh Phangan was definitely home to some of our favourite beaches in Thailand!

From the famous Haad Rin Beach, home to the Full Moon Party, to the lesser known Leela Beach, there are some absolute gems scattered around the island.

This beautiful island has a very relaxed vibe and attracts plenty of backpackers and hippies wanting to soak this up, as well as attend the iconic Full Moon Parties.

If you are looking to take part in the famous party From Koh Samui: Van and Speedboat Full Moon Party Transfer will get you there.

2. Visit The Waterfalls

Not only does this Koh Phangan have beautiful beaches, it has some pretty spectacular waterfalls too.

However, when you visit makes a difference to how impressive they are. The best time is generally between July – September, or just after, as this is peak monsoon season.

Around this time of year there should have been at least enough heavy rainfall to make the waterfalls worthwhile visiting.

With a few to choose from, visiting the Koh Phangan waterfalls is a real tourist favourite when it comes to things to do on Koh Phangan.

The most well known being Phaeng Waterfall. Just be sure not to make the same mistake as us and visit in the middle of dry season!

We don’t like to choose favourites but Paradise Waterfall was a great day out with the local kids!

3. Thong Sala Night Market

An absolute must add on your things to do on Koh Phangan list!

Also known as Pantip Market, Thong Sala Night Market is held in front of the Thong Sala Pier.

We ate at Thong Sala Night Market pretty much every evening during our trip!

With every food you can think of, from local fried meats to vegan and vegetarian options, the food prices range from 20 baht snacks to 100 baht meals.

In addition, if you fancy a change from Thai cuisine, you’ll also find a few stalls selling various international dishes.

Not forgetting the dessert lovers – there are donuts to die for, along with pancakes, ice cream, brownies and the delicious local favourite, mango sticky rice.

Also, don’t forget to visit the Saturday Night Market that takes over the whole beachfront street.

4. Slip N Fly

UPDATE: I’ve been informed that unfortunately this attraction has since closed down.

If you’re looking for an alternative day out on Koh Phangan then Slip N Fly may be your thing!

Slip N Fly is aimed at the travellers, the chillers, the couples and the party goers. All of whom are looking for a water-filled day out on the island.

As the name suggests you can Slip N Fly into the plunge pools, shoot basketballs into hoops and have a game of water volleyball. All whilst taking in the island sun and chilling with friends.

5. Amsterdam Bar

The island is full of bars and awesome chill spots. Some, however, come with some spectacular Koh Phangan viewpoints.

Our favourite of the bunch was Amsterdam Bar. Known on the island as the best place to watch a sunset, with good vibes and great views overlooking the ocean!

We visited Amsterdam Bar twice whilst on the island and it was never rowdy or full of backpackers, just very relaxed and family friendly.

With reggae music and good energy all around, Amsterdam Bar Koh Phangan will be the sunset spot you won’t forget.

There are plenty of others though, including 360 Bar and Bluerama to name a couple.

Either way, catching sunset at a rooftop bar is the perfect way to spend an evening on Koh Phangan!

If you like everything arranged for you, the From Koh Samui: Full-Day Koh Phangan Tour will take you to all the hotspots on Koh Phangan.
