If you’re on the hunt for the best Koh Tao beaches then look no further. We’ve put together a guide to our seven best beaches on Koh Tao to make life easier!
For the most beautiful of the Koh Tao beaches!
Koh Nang Yuan Island, apart from diving, has become one of the main reasons tourists flock to Koh Tao every year.
Many people choose to get the early taxi boats from Sairee Beach and spend the whole day lapping up the sun in the soft sand paradise.
Some choose to visit on a Koh Tao & Koh Nang Yuan Day Trip by Speedboat from Koh Samui.
There are a few separate swimming areas on Koh Nang Yuan.
One is more for snorkelling where you can find a Japanese Garden and many tropical fish. The others are where people tend to just chill out and relax.
A part from that take a day of rest and enjoy one of the best beaches on Koh Tao. And DON’T forget to check out the famous Koh Tao viewpoint.
For the best of the Koh Tao Beaches for sunset!
Sairee Beach is a huge 2km stretch of sand located on the West side of the island.
It’s up there with one of the best beaches on Koh Tao as it’s definitely the most popular and close to all things happening. It’s also super family friendly and great for restaurants and street food!
Many people visit Koh Tao to go diving, so all the best diving shops are located along the beachfront.
There are swings and oddly shaped palm trees along the beach that make for a perfect photo opportunity and the ideal place to base yourself for your Koh Tao visit.
Oh and don’t miss the best sunset spot on the island in the evenings!
For the most secluded of the Koh Tao Beaches!
With volleyball courts, hammocks and small a restaurant, Taa Toh Beach makes for the perfect place to chill for the afternoon.
When we arrived at this lesser known Koh Tao beach, we were pleasantly surprised.
Taa Toh Bay Koh Tao is just around the corner from Freedom Beach, making the beach hopping process super easy.
They are both definitely worth a visit if you’re traveling along the southern coast and fancy a chilled day.
For the laziest of the Koh Tao Beaches!
Freedom Beach is probably one of the most well known beaches on the south coast amongst travellers.
This is down to it’s super cosy and tucked away vibes, and the secluded feeling it gives off.
It wasn’t super busy when we visited but it was definitely a stunning little spot. With a beach hut bar and plenty of trees for shade, it made for the perfect place to chill out for the afternoon.
There wasn’t a lot to do apart from laze in hammocks or take a walk around the bay to Taa Toh Bay.
For the quietest of the Koh Tao Beaches!
Chalok Baan Kao Bay is the third largest beach on Koh Tao.
It’s a beautifully isolated strip of sand where the waters are some of the clearest on the island.
Chalok Bay is not generally top of people’s beach hopping list, but we’re so glad we gave it a go. This beach had some of the purest sand and bluest waters we found.
The day we visited the tide was way out and the beach was empty. The village behind the beach is a very small and quiet one. You won’t find much more than a 7-Eleven, a dive shop and some local snack shops.
One of the best beaches on Koh Tao if you’re looking for a local experience.
For snorkelling around the Koh Tao Beaches!
Shark Bay Koh Tao is a stunning private bay with a beach of fine white sand and turquoise waters. It makes for the ideal place to get a snorkel on.
As the name kind of suggests there are black tip reef sharks that visit the bay each day. If you’re lucky you may even be able to spot some green turtles.
If you have your own snorkelling gear, you can go ahead and use your own. Otherwise, there are snorkels to rent along the beach or from the resorts that back onto it.
Definitely a spot for the underwater world lovers.
For cliff jumping at the Koh Tao Beaches!
Tanote Bay Koh Tao has something for everyone. From beach front food to some of the best snorkelling on the island, plus there’s even a huge rock that you can jump from!
We headed down around mid afternoon to finish off our beach hopping day around the south coast of Koh Tao. And Tanote Bay was the perfect place finish.
The cliff jump you can swim out to and climb up one side of the rock using a metal chain. Although make sure you’re determined to jump because there’s only one way down!
In our opinion Tanote is one of the best beaches on Koh Tao, not for its pristine sand but for its atmosphere and activities.
