Tanote Bay In Koh Tao – A Complete Guide

Tanote Bay Koh Tao is one of the best beaches for sunrise, cliff jumping and snorkelling. So with plenty to do for everyone, here’s all you need to know.

How To Get To Tanote Bay Koh Tao

Tanote Bay Koh Tao is located on the East side of the island just down the hill from Love Koh Tao Viewpoint.

If you’re looking for transport to and from Koh Tao, you can pre-book all of your Lomprayah transfers.

We stayed at the Northern end of Sairee Beach, the tourist hub of Koh Tao. Which takes around 15 minutes to drive through the centre of the island to.

Or you can ride around the outside on a Koh Tao beach hopping tour until you reach Tanote Bay.

We rented scooters for 150 Baht per day. We found this was the easiest way possible to explore the whole island.

For those short on time, or that prefer everything to be organised for them, there are some awesome tours on Get Your Guide available to book in advance.

What To Expect At Tanote Bay Koh Tao

Tanote Bay Koh Tao has something for everyone.

From beach front food to some of the best snorkelling and scuba diving on the island. Plus there’s even a huge rock that you can jump from! It’s up there with the best beaches in Koh Tao.

The beach is not massive, with resorts and eateries sitting at the back of the beach, but there is plenty of room for sun bathing and beach games.

We headed down around mid afternoon to finish off our beach hopping day around the south coast of Koh Tao. And Tanote Bay was the perfect finish.

It was slightly crowded, although the people seemed to spread themselves between sunbathing, snorkelling and cliff jumping.

Tanote Bay Koh Tao has a very relaxed vibe to it and even though there were many tourists it wasn’t too loud or crazy.

The cliff jump you can swim out to and climb up one side of the rock using a metal chain. Although make sure you’re determined to jump because there’s only one way down!

Snorkelling At Tanote Bay

The shallow beach at Tanote Bay drops off quite quickly, so it’s the perfect place for snorkelling and scuba diving, as you don’t have to swim out far to start seeing some spectacular sea life.

There are a few large boulders (apart from the one used for jumping off) in the waters of Tanote Bay, that are covered in small coral and therefore home to plenty of marine life waiting to be discovered.

Some of what you might see include sea anemones inhabited by clownfish, giant clams and Christmas tree worms. As well as small rabbitfish, moray eels, parrotfish and more!
