Chalok Baan Kao Bay In Koh Tao – A Complete Guide

Chalok Baan Kao Bay, also known as Chalok Bay Koh Tao, is home to some of the bluest waters in the South. So here’s all you need to know about visiting.

How To Get To Chalok Baan Kao Bay

Chalok Baan Kao Bay, or Chalok Bay, is located on the southern coast of Koh Tao. Just up from Taa Toh Bay and Freedom Beach.

If you’re looking for transport to and from Koh Tao, you can pre-book all of your Lomprayah transfers.

We stayed at the Northern end of Sairee Beach, the tourist hub of Koh Tao. We rented scooters for 150 Baht per day. This is the easiest way possible to explore the whole island.

You can get an also awesome view of Chalok Bay, through the palms at the entrance to Freedom Beach.

For those short on time, or that prefer everything to be organised for them, there are some awesome tours on Get Your Guide available to book in advance.

Best Time To Visit Chalok Bay Koh Tao

The best time to visit Chalok Bay Koh Tao is between December and March, when the weather is dry and sunny.

The water is also pretty calm and clear during this period, making it perfect for swimming and snorkelling.

The only problem is, the water is shallow for quite a way out and you need to walk quite far before you can actually swim or snorkel.

This is the perfect beach for a quiet, relaxing beach day.

What To Expect At Chalok Bay Koh Tao

Chalok Bay is the third largest beach on Koh Tao.

It’s a beautifully isolated strip of sand where the waters are some of the clearest on the island and the beach slopes gently down into shallow water, ideal for families with children.

You have to walk quite far to find water deep enough to swim or snorkel in and there is not much coral here.

However, you will see various species of parrotfish as well as gobies and shrimps and you will have the bay pretty much to yourself.

There are beach bars, bean bags, and restaurants along the beach where you can relax and enjoy some refreshments. Especially nice for drinks at sunset.

Chalok Bay Koh Tao Beach is definitely one of the quieter beaches on the island if you are looking for a quiet, relaxing day.

It’s not generally top of people’s beach hopping list, but we’re so glad we gave it a go.

This beach had some of the purest sand and bluest waters we saw.

The day we visited the tide was way out and the beach was empty. The village behind the beach is a very small and quiet one. You won’t find much more than a 7-Eleven, a dive shop and some local snack shops.

Although, beyond the village is this secluded beach which can only be described as postcard worthy!

Don’t forget to head up towards the Freedom Beach entrance and stop at this stunning Koh Tao viewpoint overlooking Chalok Baan Kao Bay.
