10 Best Beaches In Uluwatu

Everybody visiting Bali longs for the white sand beaches and crystal clear water. So we toured the South to find the best Uluwatu beaches and here they are.

1. Melasti Beach

We’ll start with, in our opinion, the best beach in Bali.

Melasti Beach is like a snippet of the Philippines within Indonesia.

This picturesque spot was a little out of the way but well worth the 1.5 hour trip down South.

A beautiful beach located below a high cliff with unspoiled blue sea. The long coastal strip gives you plenty of space to perch yourself in and switch off for the day.

Melasti Beach has the calmest waters out of all the Uluwatu beaches.

Before you head down to our favourite of the Uluwatu beaches, don’t forget to capture a scenic photo from above.

If you’re looking to explore a few spots with ease then it may be worth booking a Bali: Customizable Half-Day Tour.

2. Green Bowl Beach

Second on the list, again this is one of the best Bali beaches!

A hidden gem amongst the south coast. After walking down many steps we made it to the plush spot that is Green Bowl Beach.

This 30-metre coastal strip with coarse white sand is located at the bottom of a 75-metre-tall cliff. At the base, you’ll come across 2 large limestone caves that house small rock shrines.

They also provide shade and shelter for beachgoers and surfers throughout the day.

Green Bowl Beach is about 15 km south of Kuta. To get to the beach, you’ll need to descend hundreds of concrete steps down a cliff face.

Going back up can be a challenge, but the scenic bird’s eye view keeps you going along the way.

Green Bowl Beach is definitely one of the best white sand beaches in Bali.

3. Pandawa Beach

Hidden behind huge limestone cliffs, Pandawa Beach was once known as secret beach.

It used to be super difficult to access because it was located within a deep valley and surrounded by all the white stone cliffs.

It’s definitely worthy of a day trip, especially for families. The seawater is calm and completely safe to swim.

It’s a great addition to all the beautiful white sand beaches in the south. The water is aqua blue and the sand is soft and powdery.

It’s no wonder the word got out about this beach!

4. Jimbaran Beach

Jimbaran Beach is also known as the home of luxury hotels, including the likes of the Four Seasons Resort at Jimbaran Bay and the InterContinental Bali Resort & Spa.

Jimbaran’s 4km-long arc of sand is mostly clean and there is no shortage of places to get a snack, drink or seafood dinner, or to rent a sun lounge.

The bay is protected by an unbroken coral reef, which keeps the surf more mellow than at popular Kuta further north, although you can still get breaks that are fun for bodysurfing.

We headed over to Jimbaran Beach and experienced a beautiful pink, fluffy sunset. All whilst watching the locals play football and families messing around.

Although it’s popular amongst locals, we believe this is one of the most touristy Uluwatu beaches too.

If you’re heading down to Jimbaran there’s also a famous fish market you have to check out as well as plenty of fancy hotels in the area.

The Bali Sunset: Uluwatu Temple, Kecak Dance and Jimbaran Bay tour includes sunset over the Indian Ocean, a traditional “kecak” dance performance at Uluwatu Temple and seafood dinner at Jimbaran Bay.

5. Suluban Beach

Suluban Beach, commonly referred to as Uluwatu Beach, is the most popular spot for surfers and makes a great place to hang out for the day. You can even enjoy if from above at one of the many cliff top bars!

If beach bars are your thing, check out the Uluwatu: Beach Club and Cliffside Private Bar Hopping Tour.

The beach itself is completely different to all the other Bali beaches. This one is a real adventure, climbing down the windy stairs and exploring beneath the limestones cliffs.

Half of the beach is shaded by the caved cliff and the other half catches the sun throughout the day.

This little gem was definitely one of our favourite beaches on the island.

Suluban Beach has so much to offer from, surf and beach bars, to exploring and taking pictures.

Be sure to check the tide times before you visit.

6. Nyang Nyang Beach

Nyang Nyang Beach is a pristine 1.5-km stretch of white sand on the southernmost coast of Bali. Remote and surrounded by cliffs, the beach calls for a long trek down a lush cliffside to reach it.

This is where the famous graffitied vessel lays, a popular spot for tourists.

There’s even a little hidden swing making for an awesome photo opportunity using the ocean as a stunning backdrop.

Nyang Nyang Beach was another one of our favourite Uluwatu Beaches because it was so clean and secluded.

We’ve heard many stories about people visiting this beach and finding lots of trash scattered everywhere. However, when we visited, it was completely clean.

Please know that, different seasons in Bali depend on what state you will find the beaches in. Trash is known to wash up from the ocean towards the end of monsoon season.

Bali’s rainy season runs from October to April, with the wettest months being December and January.

No matter what the season you can expect a tropical, warm and humid climate all year round.

7. Balangan Beach

One of the best Uluwatu beaches for sunset, as well as surf!

Balangan Beach is one of Bali’s most scenic spots, featuring a gorgeous half-kilometre stretch of golden sand between vegetated limestone cliffs.

Locally referred to as Pantai Balangan, there’s a reef just off the coast that creates one of the longest left-hander breaks on the island.

You can also sit right on top of the cliff at Balangan Beach and watch the sun go down over the horizon.

It’s such a beautiful place and so much so that we even spotted a wedding shoot taking place whilst visiting.

Several local warungs are on the coastline, serving simple local surfer meals, together with cold refreshments and beer.

8. Tegal Wangi Beach

Naturally formed rock pools make for an awesome ‘private jacuzzi’ at Tegal Wangi Beach, one of our other favourite sunset spots on the island.

The caves and the rock formations definitely make this beach unique and another easy spot to spend an evening.

Tegal Wangi Beach is certainly the most unique out of all the Uluwatu beaches.

9. Bingin Beach

Bingin Beach is one of Bali’s preferred surf spots, where you can enjoy a calm and relaxing setting and also grab the famous Bali Instagram photo with it’s huge boulder and tiny tree on top.

The waves and the reef break are strictly for advanced riders, but everyone can enjoy the scenic beauty from the stretch of white sand.

At lower tides, the waters are suitable for swimming and snorkelling. You can explore the hilly terrain for a bird’s eye-view, or families can simply enjoy leisure activities down on the coast.

Along the hills are various local Warungs and small villas that have sprung up over the past few years.

Although there was a lot of rubbish washed up on the beach when we visited.

If you do plan to check it out, be sure to check the tides before you visit.

You can check the tides via the Magic Seaweed website.

10. Padang Padang Beach

Padang Padang Beach is a stunning 100 metre-long stretch of sand that’s accessible down a flight of stairs and through a unique hollow rock entrance.

The surf has a steady set of barrels during good weather, attracting wave riders from around the world.

This beach is also a regular spot for international surfing events, such as the Rip Curl Cup Padang Padang.

At the bottom of the jungle walk lies a small bay with calm waters which makes it a popular spots for families and an exotic setting for friends to chill out too.

Watch out for the monkeys on the way down!
