6 Best Vegan Restaurants In London

If you’re looking for the best vegan restaurants in London, here we break down the most popular spots as we run through the favourites.

1. Mildreds

Named London’s favourite vegan restaurant in 2023, I had to start with Mildreds. This popular vegan chain of restaurants actually began as a vegetarian restaurant in Greek Street, Soho back in 1988.

Fast forward to 2021 and Mildreds became 100% plant based as well as expanding across central London with branches in Camden Town, Covent Garden, Dalston and King’s Cross.

Open all day for breakfast, lunch, dinner and weekend brunch, Mildreds serves an adventurous menu of globally inspired, seasonal food.

With influences including Thailand, Sri Lanka, China, Italy and Mexico as well as modern British dishes, you are sure to find something to your taste.

Some of the most popular dishes are Sri Lankan Sweet Potato and Green Bean Curry, Smoked Tofu and Black Bean Burger, Pumpkin and Ricotta Tortellini and the Poached Pear Salad.

In addition, if you are looking for something sweet they have some delicious desserts. The Chocolate and Hazelnut Truffle Cake being a must!

2. Mallow

Spearheaded by the same team as Mildreds Restaurants, Mallow offers the same high standard of plant based cuisine. However, with a slightly more ‘fine-dining’ feel.

Located in an impressive two storey building in Borough Market, the first Mallow restaurant opened in 2023. This was followed in 2023 by a second, just as impressive, in the heart of Canary Wharf.

Open for breakfast, lunch and evening meals, the Borough Market location uses ingredients sourced directly from the local traders. With a modern but warm style, this restaurant feels like the perfect extension to this popular market.

Seasonal fruit and vegetables are put together to create mouthwatering breakfasts, weekend brunches, small and large plates as well as a delicious selection of desserts. All again with influences taken from around the globe.

A small plate example being Cauliflower Chaat with Coriander Yoghurt and Porcini Truffle Croquettes, Leeks and Aioli. With one of the large plate options being Jambalaya Arancino, Creole Veloute, Hoppin’ John Black Eye Peas, Okra, Plantain Crisp.

The large and airy Mallow Restaurant in Canary Wharf combines delicious signature dishes from Borough Market, alongside new and exclusive additions. Also open for breakfast, lunch and evening meals, it is proving to be a hit with locals, city workers and visitors.

3. Holy Carrot

At the time of writing, after a successful two years in Knightsbridge, Holy Carrot restaurant is in the midst of relocating. Promising a stunning new location in the heart of popular Notting Hill, the opening date is set for spring 2024.

However, if you want to try their delicious plant-based food before then, the Holy Carrot team are hosting weekly supper clubs at Maria G’s in Kensington. With the menu inspired by the Holy Carrot classics.

Also keep your eye out on their social media for the pop up airstream that often offers itself out at events around the city.

Focusing on ethically sourced, seasonal produce their beautifully presented dishes are full of globally inspired flavours.

Their popular classic dishes include Truffle Celeriac Risotto, Sexy Tofu and Wings Platter (crunchy oyster mushrooms cooked two ways).

Also, for those that like to finish with something sweet, there is a choice of delicious desserts. Including the likes of lemon tart brûlée with raspberry and coconut frozen yoghurt.

Apparently all the favourites will be on the menu at the new location, alongside some exciting new creations. All served up in a fresh, modern and stylish interior that we are looking for forward to visiting.

With a slogan of ‘100% Vegan – 100% Bangin‘, you would expect the Mexican, street food inspired cuisine to pack a punch .

And, serving a variety of delicious Tacos, Nachos, Burritos and more, you definitely won’t be disappointed. In fact their success and growth over the years is a clear indication of how good the food is.

What started as a supper club in 2014, and then moved to street stalls, has proved to be so popular that in 2020 Club Mexicana opened their first restaurant in Soho. Followed in 2023 by another one in Shoreditch and also one in Brixton.
