3 Best Waterfalls In Koh Phangan

Koh Phangan Waterfalls are a sight to see if you catch them in the right season. So here’s our guide to the top waterfalls in Koh Phangan and when to visit.

Best Time To Visit Koh Phangan Waterfalls

The best time to visit the waterfalls on Koh Phangan is between July – September, or just after, as this is peak monsoon season.

Around this time of year there should have been at least enough heavy rainfall to make the waterfalls worthwhile visiting.

However, always be sure to check the weather forecast beforehand to avoid any underwhelming experiences like ours.

1. Paradise Waterfall

Paradise Waterfall was definitely our favourite Koh Phangan waterfall. Although there wasn’t really any fast flowing water, due to dry season, the place had a real good vibe.

There were locals jumping from a rope swing and the kids were having a real good time interacting with the tourists.

The younger ones were teaching all the tourists how to backflip from the rope swings and they certainly showed us how’s it’s done.

It requires no hike and is guaranteed to have a huge swimming hole at the entrance, so this one is always a hit whatever the season!

For those short on time, or that prefer everything to be organised for them, there are some awesome tours on Get Your Guide available to book in advance.

2. Phaeng Waterfall

Phaeng Waterfall is the most famous and tallest waterfall on the island and we’re sure, in the right season, it can be satisfyingly beautiful.

Situated in the Thansadej National Park, the Phaeng Waterfall actually comprises of two sections Phaeng Noi (small) and Phaeng Yai (big).

We unfortunately visited at the end of July when it was super dry, with no water whatsoever. Massive FAIL!

We explored the grounds and found that there are a few Koh Phangan Waterfalls located within the same park as Phaeng Waterfall. So make sure you plan your trip accordingly!

3. Wang Sai Waterfall

Wang Sai Waterfall is one of the lesser known spots on the island.

We weren’t sure what to expect, having done no research on the falls beforehand, but when we arrived we were greeted by a definite up and coming tourist spot!

Bamboo entrance gates and huge activity signs paved the way. Then it was just a short 150 metre walk to Wang Sai Waterfall itself.

Like the other waterfalls on Koh Phangan, we unfortunately visited in dry season. So the water wasn’t amazing. Although we did get a glimpse of just how beautiful it could be in high season!

Thanks for the write up! We went to Paradise waterfall today and it was basically a large puddle, so I think we may be in the midst of dry season (July 18th 2023)
