Tips Before Visiting The Monkey Forest
Don’t Touch The Monkeys
Although it is tempting to touch or feed the cute monkeys, you are advised against it. If they climb on you, just enjoy the experience and let them do as they please.
Don’t Torment The Monkeys
Do not torment the monkeys in any way. They WILL bite you.
Don’t Look The Monkeys In Eyes
They see this as a sign of aggression and are likely to give you a nip if you stare right at them.
Feeding Them Bananas
There are locals walking around selling bananas by the dozen.
If you don’t want to associate with the monkeys, then we would recommend not buying any bananas and certainly don’t take any food in your bags, or they will know.
You can purchase bananas and allow the monkey to run up your arm and take it if you like.
Lock Everything In A Day Bag
Make sure you have no loose belongings, and a secure day bag.
Check that all the pockets on your bag are empty and close the zips. Don’t take your bag off or open it whilst you’re in the temple!
Monkeys are like mini humans, they know exactly how take your belongings. Also hide away any sunglasses or any loose jewellery.
Be Alert At All Times
Monkeys will sneak up behind you and even try to take your flip flops. Just stay alert and always be aware of your surroundings.
Rabies
If you are attacked by a monkey it can pose serious risks.
Rabies can sit dormant in animals for up to 2 years before they begin to show signs or symptoms of carrying it.
If you get bitten or scratched by an animal that carries rabies in their system, it can fatal if immediate action is not taken.
You should visit the nearest medical centre as soon as possible. Double check your travel insurance is up to date before visiting.
