Thousand Islands Viewpoint is definitely one of the most spectacular spots on Nusa Penida. Here’s all the info for visiting this famous photo location.
How To Get To Thousand Islands Viewpoint Nusa Penida
Day 3 of our Nusa Penida itinerary was broken down into heading out East on scooters. We started with Atuh Beach before moving onto the Rumah Pohon Treehouse, Thousand Islands Viewpoint and Suwehan Beach.
The Eastern point is about a 1 hour 30 minutes drive from the ferry port and the roads are pretty rough. So please take care when driving!
We recommend using a scooter to get around the island which can be rented for around 70,00 IDR per day.
On the first day of our Nusa Penida tour, we took a private day trip, which covered all the iconic spots with ease. So if you’d rather visit with a car and a driver we can highly recommend this option.
For those short on time, or that prefer everything to be organised for them, there are some awesome tours on Get Your Guide available to book in advance.

Best Time To Visit Thousand Island Viewpoint + Tips
The best time to visit the island is between May and September when the weather is dry and it is easy to explore the island.
The Thousand Island Viewpoint is one of Nusa Penida’s most popular attractions and hence it’s always busy. So, like all popular tourist attractions, get there early if you want to avoid the crowds.
Visiting early in the day, you will also avoid the midday heat which can get pretty sweaty as you clamber up and down to the viewpoints.
What To Pack
What To Expect At Thousand Islands Viewpoint
Once you pay entrance to the Ruman Pohon Molentang grounds it gives you access to the Nusa Penida Treehouse, as well as the Thousand Islands Viewpoint.
The stairway down is about a 10 minute walk and can be a little tough on a hot day. Although the views at the bottom are well worth it!
They also have a small warung style shop at the entrance. It was surprisingly cheap at only 15,000 for a Mie Goreng.
There are actually two different viewpoints, giving different angles of the beautiful eastern rock formations and crystal blue Bali Sea.
The first viewpoint has recently been roped off for tourists safety. So you can’t get that rural island photo anymore but that doesn’t take away from the incredible natural view.

The second viewpoint is up and past the Rumah Pohon Treehouse.
It’s one of the most Easternly points you can reach on Nusa Penida Island and if you have super strong vision you may be able to see Lombok!
The views from Rumah Pohon are beautiful and waking up in the treehouse would probably be like something out of a movie!
