South Cebu Itinerary – How To Spend 1 – 3 Days In South Cebu

The island of Cebu is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Philippines and for a while now has been the place to base your Philippines trip around.

This large island measures 196 km in length, although is only 32 km at its widest point, and has a population of just over 1 million people.

It is famous for its beautiful beaches, amazing waterfalls, abundant marine life and friendly locals. With most of the must-see attractions in the south of the island

So, here’s our South Cebu itinerary – 3 days 2 nights to help you plan yours.

How To Get Around Cebu

Getting around Cebu is pretty easy if you have plenty of time and can ride scooters.

The main roads are tarmacked, and the highway leads right around the coast.

I recommend starting in Moalboal and working your way around to Oslob to maximise your time on the island.

For those short on time, or that prefer everything to be organised for them, there are some awesome tours on Get Your Guide available to book in advance.

Also, the Philippines Itinerary has more ideas on how to spend your time in the Philippines.

Best Time To Visit Cebu

The best time to visit the Philippines is between November and April, the island’s dry season.

The perfect time to see everything that South Cebu has to offer.

March to May is extremely hot and humid, and can be uncomfortable. June to August are the monsoon months and so obviously see some heavy rainfall.

However, if you want to avoid the crowds, from February to May is peak summer season in Cebu. This is when all the locals and tourist will be flocking to the beautiful beaches and enjoying outdoor activities.

Remember, this is just a guide, so you may want to mix it up and add/subtract different attractions.

South Cebu Itinerary Day 1

Moalboal is a great place to use as a base on your South Cebu itinerary.

Home to one of the world’s largest Sardine Run, and close to the famous Kawasan Falls, this small hippie town is also the most touristy on the island.

We suggest starting here and either going out diving in Moalboal, or visiting the sardines early in the morning.

You can do both in one day if you want to via the Deep-Sea Diving at Moalboal and Pescador Island.

If you’re not so keen on the underwater world, then just relaxing at one of the beach front guesthouses or having a walk around Moalboal town is great.

Moalboal is definitely the easiest place to start on Cebu and it may even be best to just drop your bags down and explore from here.

South Cebu Itinerary Day 2

Kawasan Falls

Kawasan Falls is one of the most famous waterfalls in the world and is definitely one of the best waterfalls in the Philippines. A must-see on your south Cebu itinerary!

Located in Badian, just a 30 minute drive from Moalboal, you can visit the falls for the day as a tourist and take photos/swim for just 40 PHP per person.

Although the best option is to book a Kawasan Falls Canyoneering & Cliff Jump Private Tour and enjoy a full day of adrenaline activities!

This Canyoneering Kawasan Falls tour includes:

  • Hotel pick-up and drop-off
  • Local guide
  • Lunch
  • Motorbike ride to the jump point
  • Entrance fees to Kawasan Falls and the Badian canyoneering activity
  • Safety gear for canyoning (life jacket, aqua shoes, and helmet)
  • Towels

The tour time ran from 9am-3pm, although that included transfers and lunch. All in all we were in the water for a good 3-4 hours!

From rope swings, to cliff jumps, we highly recommend it as one of the best things to do in the Philippines.

South Cebu Itinerary Day 3

Waterfall Chasing

From Moalboal most people jump on a bus, or hire a driver, and head around the South coast to Oslob – home to the whale sharks.

Although if you’re not interested in swimming with the sharks, there’s not much else to do in Oslob.

So I recommend jumping on scooters and going to explore more waterfalls on the South coast.

When planning your South Cebu itinerary, don’t miss the opportunity to visit Aguinid Falls especially.

Around 1 hour from Moalboal and a 40 minute drive from Oslob, lies one of the most adventurous waterfalls in the Philippines.

With five tiers of climbing, jumping and swimming around it was definitely one of the highlights of our trip!

Then just around the bend you can also find Tumalog Falls. Which was a little disappointing when we visited thanks to the drought, but still worth a visit.

If you’re short on time there’s always the option of booking a day trip, such as the Private Whale Shark Tour & Tumalog Falls tour.
