What To Pack

History Of Shed 1 Gin
Launched in their garden shed in October 2016 by husband and wife team Andy & Zoe Arnold-Bennett, Shed 1 Distillery produces award-winning, micro-batch, craft gin.
Zoe had been making compound gin elixirs for a while and Andy started getting more interested in the process. After playing with botanicals for a while they decided it was time to take it up a notch and produce our own gin.
When looking for somewhere to distill their gin that was close to home and cheap to run, they decide to use one of their sheds. Choosing shed 1, the shed closest to the house, ‘Shed 1 Distillery’ was born
In 2019 they moved their distillery from their garden shed to the Old Calf Shed just close by and had room there to open a Visitor Centre. Subsequently launching – ‘Gin Experiences’, including Cumbria’s only ‘Make Your Own Gin’.
In 2020 and 2021 they won The Gin Guide’s ‘Environmental Sustainability Award’. Followed by, in 2022, the Global Icons of Gin ‘Best Visitor Attraction’.

What To Expect At Shed 1 Gin
What better place to finish the Lake District trip, after a quiet stop at South Walney Nature Reserve, than at a Gin Distillery.
Located in the corner of an old cattle yard, Shed 1 Gin Distillery has a lovely warm and inviting feel. The team, including owners Andy and Zoe are very knowledgeable, friendly and welcoming.
You can choose from the following experiences that need to be booked in advance:
Distillery Tour and Tasting
Lasting approximately 1.5 hours, it starts with a welcoming G&T. The owners and distillers will then show you the micro-distillery and tell you the story of their gin.
This is followed by a gin tasting session in the lovely visitor area and a second G&T of your favourite flavour.
Make Your Own Distilled Gin
Starting with a welcome G&T, Andy and Zoe take you through the process of gin making and discuss the different botanicals and their properties.
You then choose your own ingredients, add them to a mini-still and watch the process unfold. When complete you get to create your own label for your gin.
Lasting approximately 3.5 hours, you also get to enjoy a couple of G&Ts and a few sweet treats from the Afternoon G&Tea Menu.
Afternoon G&Tea
Starting with a welcome G&T, Andy and Zoe will take you on a distillery tour. Then relax in the stylish bar and enjoy Zoe’s specially created Afternoon Tea with a second G&T, of your choosing, served during your experience.
Served at either 1.30pm or 3.00pm and including delicious finger sandwiches, scones, sweet treats and tea, all incorporating botanicals used in the Shed 1 gin making process.
Shed 1 Gin also offer group bookings and are also an approved wedding venue for an intimate wedding of up to 30 people. As well as Gin Elopements!
Although I don’t drink, I would highly recommend this little gem if looking for a really friendly, interesting experience with some delicious and uniquely flavoured food and drink.
A must for all gin lovers!
