Selong Belanak Beach is a beautiful white sand beach, ideal for beginner surfers in Lombok. We headed west from Kuta and here’s all the info for visiting.
How To Get To Selong Belanak Beach Lombok
Selong Belanak Beach is around a 30 minute drive West from Kuta, the main tourist area in Lombok.
We always choose to rent scooters, which start at around 50,000 IDR per day, and explore ourselves. These can usually be rented from your accommodation or they will point you in the right direction.
Another option is to rent a driver, which is pretty popular for day trips around Lombok, and they start at around 500,000 IDR per day (8 hours).
For those short on time, or that prefer everything to be organised for them, there are some awesome tours on Get Your Guide available to book in advance.

Best Time To Visit Selong Belanak Beach + Tips
The best beach weather in Bali is during the dry season, which runs from April to October.
This beach is a little quieter than some of the other beaches, with fewer tourists apart from the ones having surfing lessons.
Selong Belanak Beach is definitely the perfect spot to learn to surf. (Be aware that apparently, if you break your surf board you have to pay to replace it, so make sure it’s not damaged before you start!)
Alternatively, it’s also the perfect spot, with its relaxed and peaceful vibe, if you are looking for a bit of down time.
Furthermore, if you are a keen photographer, the colourful fishing boats make for some great photo opportunities, as do the spectacular sunsets.
What To Pack:
What To Expect At Selong Belanak Beach
This beautiful white beach has a contrasting backdrop of lush green hills overlooking headlands, making it the perfect place to be for sunset.
However, apart from being a lovely beach, if you’re looking to learn to surf in Lombok then Selong Belanak Beach is your spot.
The beach itself is made up of white powdery sand and although the water isn’t the clearest, that doesn’t matter to the people that visit.
That’s because the majority of visitors to Selong Belanak Beach are heading out west to try some beginner surf lessons or practise their new found hobby!

As we arrived, we spotted colourful fishing boats pulled up on the beach with the local fishermen preparing their freshly caught fish.
We sat and watched for a while as the steady waves continuously rolled in and first timer surfers repeatedly practised standing up on their boards.
The locals seemed super friendly and patient whilst helping the novice surfers. So, if you’re looking to learn to surf, this is another reason to choose Selong Belanak Beach and why we think it’s one of the best beaches in Lombok.
Additionally, there are plenty of beach shacks and bamboo chairs spread out along the beach for guests to relax on. Or for hungry surfers to grab some lunch before getting back out onto the waves.
