If you’re looking for some of the best surf in Lombok then Mawi Beach Lombok is your spot. We visited for the day & here’s everything you need to know.
How To Get To Mawi Beach Lombok
Mawi Beach is around a 45 minute drive West from Kuta, the main tourist area in Lombok.
We always choose to rent scooters, which start at around 50,000 IDR per day, and explore ourselves. These can usually be rented from your accommodation or they will point you in the right direction.
Another option is to rent a driver, which is pretty popular for day trips around Lombok, and they start at around 500,000 IDR per day (8 hours).
If you’re heading to Mawi Beach don’t miss Semeti Beach just around the corner.
For those short on time, or that prefer everything to be organised for them, there are some awesome tours on Get Your Guide available to book in advance.
Mawi Beach Entrance Fee

Best Time To Visit Mawi Beach + Tips
The driest months on the island of Lombok are July and August, although the weather is pretty good all year round with a mix of wet and dry as the climate moves towards the drier season.
The peak season for tourists is between May and October and it does get pretty busy.
If you’re a keen surfer this is the perfect beach for you.
Mawi Beach has everything needed for a chilled beach day.
What To Pack
What To Expect At Mawi Beach Lombok
This 150m stretch of soft sand beach has turquoise blue water and rolling waves awaiting you.
Attracting many surfers from around the world, Lombok is one of the best places is Indonesia for catching waves.
Although we tend to leave the surfing to the professionals, it was still good to swing by Mawi Beach and observe from the sidelines as the locals and tourists took to the ocean.
We arrived at around 4pm and there must have been over 20 surfers still out enjoying the water and putting on a great display for any interested spectators.
We grabbed a mie goreng (vegetable noodles) from one of the shacks that are situated in the cove and set up for the evening.

Mawi Beach Lombok is definitely a place you can just relax and waste the days away. With such chilled vibes and likewise chilled people this was definitely one of the best beaches in Lombok for us, and we wished we could have spent more time there.
There are even free beach canopies available if you prefer a little more shade to relax under. So nothing can really stand in the way of a perfect beach day.
The view of the ocean goes out for miles and the waves are pretty big, so it’s definitely known in Kuta that Mawi Beach is THE spot for the best surfing in Lombok.
For us it was a place to unwind after a couple of days beach-hopping in the south and play around with the stray dogs in the sand.
