Lago Di Caldonazzo In Valsugana – A Complete Guide

Lago Di Caldonazzo is the largest lake in Trentino. With plenty of activities and incredible scenery available, here’s all the info for visiting.

How To Get To Lago Di Caldonazzo

Lago Di Caldonazzo, or Lake Caldonazzo, is located in the Valsugana region.

Just a 5 minute drive from Caldonazzo town, or 10 minute drive from Levico Terme, the lake itself is the largest in Trentino.

The best options in terms of public transport are hotel transfers, buses or taxis.

If you’re looking to travel from Trento the best option is by train. Simply take the regional train to Bassano del Grappa and get off at Calceranica. Roughly a 20 km journey.

We recommend renting a car for your entire Italy trip. That way you can pick up the car from the airport and explore the region at ease. Plus there are plenty of car parks available around Lago Di Caldonazzo.

For those short on time, or that prefer everything to be organised for them, there are some awesome tours on Get Your Guide available to book in advance.

Best Time to Visit Lago Di Caldonzza + Tips

For the best weather, between the months of April and September is when the temperatures are usually perfect to enjoy everything on offer.

With so much to do here it can get pretty busy, especially during the school holidays. Therefore, if you prefer it a little less crowded, as well as a little less expensive, then avoid these times.

Arrive early if you need to park as parking spaces get filled up very quickly, especially during peak season.

Take your own beach chairs as there are no hire facilities.

What To Expect At Lago Di Caldonazzo

An incredibly sized lake, with plenty to do for visitors of any age!

Measuring 5 km in length, and 1.87 km in width, Lago Di Caldonazzo is the largest lake in Trentino.

Many people think of Lake Garda as the largest, however Garda does not entirely belong to the Trentino region.

Lake Caldonazzo is known historically as the destination of water sports lovers, and has played an important role as a training ground for many top water sports athletes.

You can in fact practice water skiing on Caldonazzo, which is the only lake in the entire region where this is allowed.

We spent the afternoon trying our hand at sailing with the amazing guys at Archè, who are great with people of all levels and abilities!

The Lake

The water temperature in summer hovers at around 20-24 degrees, making it an ideal place for families and tourists to plan a day out.

You will find plenty of free beaches and play areas, so if you’re not so keen on the water sports a day of swimming and relaxing in nature is easy to come by.

If you fancy a walk there are plenty of routes available which you can check out via Komoot website. However to circle the whole lake will take roughly 4 hours, covering nearly 9.5 miles.

Overall Lago Di Caldonazzo is an awesome spot with plenty of options depending on your mood.

Surrounded by restaurants and pubs that liven up the summer nights, this is a place you can spend many hours/days relaxing and making memories amongst the mountains.

Certainly one of the best things to do in Valsugana!
