The jeep safari Madeira tour was one of our top highlights on the island. From off-road forest drives to a morning in the clouds, here’s all the info.
How To Book A Jeep Safari In Madeira
There are so many options when booking a Madeira jeep safari tour of the island, that it can be a little overwhelming.
However we opted to go with Mountain Expeditions and cannot recommend them enough!
With full day or half day tours available, you can even completely customise your own tour with an experienced professional driver.
From ‘the best of the South’, to ‘the enchanting North’, you can contact the qualified drivers and give them a breakdown of exactly what you’d like to see.
We chose the Madeira: Full-Day South Coast Jeep Tour and our day with Mountain Expeditions was incredible. The guide was on time, spoke great english an catered to our every need.
We may be biased, but ask for João as your guide if you want the best Madeira jeep tour out there. He couldn’t have been anymore helpful.
With his passion for Madeira, as well as his great passion for life, he was an absolute pleasure to be around.

Jeep Safari In Madeira Prices
As there are so many different kinds of jeep safari Madeira tours available, it’s difficult to state an exact price.
See the ranges and averages below:
Half day jeep safari Madeira tours average at €35 per person
Full day jeep safari Madeira tours range from around €45 – €70 per person
We opted for the Madeira: Full-Day South Coast Jeep Tour which works out at around €45 per person for an amazing 8 hour day!
The prices become a little more expensive when you add extras and choose to customise your tours.
For a little extra money, you can even combine you Madeira Jeep Tour with a Levada Walk.

Best Time To Take A Madeira Jeep Tour + Tips
August and September are the hottest months of the year in Madeira and the busiest. You may want to avoid this time if you prefer it a little cooler and less crowded.
However, Madeira has a sub-tropical climate that offers sunshine throughout the year, so a Jeep Tour would be great at any time.
There is so much to see we would recommend booking out a whole day if possible.
Also it’s definitely worth paying for a tour with a guide so you don’t miss a thing!
What To Pack
What To Expect On A Madeira Jeep Tour
We dedicated one of our days on the beautiful Portuguese island to taking a Madeira jeep tour with Mountain Expedition.
We ventured through the mountains and valleys, experiencing the rugged natural beauty and spectacular landscapes of Madeira.
Spending a full 8 hours exploring every corner of Madeira we hadn’t yet reached, with a very knowledgeable guide, was a really enjoyable way of getting to know the island and its culture.
When we travel, we really like to experience and learn as much as we possibly can about a place. So by taking this Madeira jeep tour, we definitely ticked that box!
Conveniently, door-to-door transfers are included as well as a tasty, traditional lunch. We had a customised experience so we enjoyed a beautiful picnic sitting by the sea.

We visited the stunning, UNESCO World Heritage subtropical Laurissilva Forests, in the hardest-to-find locations. As well as lots of beautiful valleys full of endless flora and fauna.
You get to go off-road and access places that would be hard to reach alone, such as the amazing Pico do Arieiro, Madeira’s third highest peak.
Pico do Arieiro stands at 1810m and, on a clear day, gives stunning views across to the neighbouring island of Porto Santo, 48km to the north east.
However, if like us you don’t always get lucky with clear skies, you can stand above (or in) the clouds and enjoy feeling ‘on top of the world’.
Madeira island is not only known for its beautiful nature but also the vast Atlantic Ocean surrounding the island, with its abundance of sea life.
So, you can actually combine your jeep safari Madeira tour with a catamaran trip if that’s something that is on your bucket list.
