Chaweng Beach In Koh Samui – A Complete Guide

Chaweng Beach Koh Samui is the most popular beach on the island, due to Chaweng being the tourist hub. So here’s everything you need to know when visiting!

How To Get To Chaweng Beach

Chaweng Beach Koh Samui is located on the East side of the island. It’s a huge stretch of land that runs all the way up the coast.

We stayed in the Chaweng area of Koh Samui. Although if you’re travelling from outside of Chaweng, then you can rent a scooter for 150 Baht per day and explore the island.

Whilst in the area we recommend heading down to Lamai Beach as well, for another beautiful strip and a visit to Hin Ta & Hin Yai Rocks!

If you’re looking for transport to and from Koh Samui, you can pre-book all of your Lomprayah transfers.

For those short on time, or that prefer everything to be organised for them, there are some awesome tours on Get Your Guide available to book in advance.

Chaweng Beach Opening Times

Chaweng Beach is open all day, every day.

Best Time To Visit Chaweng Beach

The weather on Koh Samui is generally hot and sunny all year round – perfect for beach days. With the most settled months, weather-wise, being December to March.

The rainy season is usually between mid-October to mid-December.

Chaweng Beach consists of four different areas, with the central area being the busiest. If you like it a bit quieter, head to the north or south end of the beach like we did.

If you want to stay in the central area of Chaweng Beach, get there early as it will fill up as the days goes on.

The water is shallow for quite a way out, so ideal for families with young children who like to paddle.

What To Expect At Chaweng Beach In Koh Samui

So, the most popular stretch of sand on the island is definitely the beautiful, coconut tree lined Chaweng Beach Koh Samui!

Stretching over 7km, it is situated right in the hub of the most touristy part of the island and is generally where people book their stay.

With it being so easily accessible, it does get super busy in peak season. Although that doesn’t stop the beach from being enjoyable most days!

There are different activities on offer on the beach including diving, snorkelling, jet skiing, boat trips and more.

There are also plenty of vendors selling everything from fruit, ice creams, souvenirs and hats to local Thai food cooked on portable barbecues.

Instead of hanging around in the touristy area we drove right up to the northern part of Chaweng Beach, directly outside Tango Beach Resort, and we were rewarded with the most powdery white sand and a much quieter version of the touristy beach!

The ocean at the northern end of Chaweng Beach is completely transparent and feels nothing short of paradise!

There were nowhere near as many tourists at this end of the beach and even better, this side had its own private sand banks!

If you want a change from Chaweng Beach Koh Samui, you can head down south to Lamai Beach which is just a short 25 minutes drive further along the coastal road.

Hi there! Your blog is very informative! Thank you for this! Me and my boyfriend are going to Koh Samui this December. I want to stay at Chaweng since a lot of people are recommending it especially South Chaweng but learned that it gets busy there so we decided to just stay in Lamai. (Hopefully its an okay decision.)

Then I saw this and man!!! these are gorgeous!!! I really do not want the crowd and these tips are perfect!!!

Just wondering, is the beach outside the Tango Luxe Beach Villa Samui accessible to public? or you guys checked in with that hotel?

thank you and keep the blogs coming :)

You guys are really helpful!

@Charlie & Lauren,

Hi Charlie & Lauren, Your blog is fantastic and the photos are stunning! I would like to know exactly where those photos with the sandbar were taken on Chaweng beach? When I type in Tango Luxe Beach Villa Samui it takes me to another beach on Koh Samui! If I've got it right the sandbar is Ko Na Thian??? Looking at hotels for this coming August. Thanks for your time and keep the blog coming ... enjoy reading it Shauntelle

Hey guys! Sorry for the slow response.

I'm sure you will be able to explore all of Samui from Lamai, it's an easy island to get around.

This area of Chaweng Beach is accessible to the public, it's located just behind Tango Luxe Beach Villa Samui - however you don't have to stay there.

Thanks for the support and best of luck with your trip! :)
