Castel Pergine In Valsugana – A Complete Guide

Castel Pergine is a medieval castle that has been converted into an impressive hotel with a delicious on site restaurant. Here’s all the info for visiting.

How To Get To Castel Pergine

Castel Pergine, or Castle Pergine depending on where you’re from, is located in the town of Pergine Valsugana.

Just a 10 minute drive from Levico Terme, or a 20 minute drive from Caldonazzo, it’s easily accessible from anywhere in the region.

Public transport is available from both Levico and Caldonazzo via the local train stations. Simply follow the R25 or R26 service.

From Pergine town centre it is roughly a 30 minute walk (1.7km). However, the majority of the journey is up hill.

We recommend renting a car for your entire Italy trip. That way you can pick up the car from the airport and explore the region at ease. Another option is of course a private taxi to Castel Pergine.

For those short on time, or that prefer everything to be organised for them, there are some awesome tours on Get Your Guide available to book in advance.

Best Time To Visit Castel Pergine

We would recommend visiting on a nice warm day when the skies are clear, so that you can enjoy wandering around the grounds, taking in the spectacular views, as well as visiting the Castel.

Or, budget allowing, even book an overnight stay for a real medieval experience.

There are lots of events held at the Castel, so make sure to check if there is anything you might like to see and plan your visit accordingly.

This is a beautiful place, steeped in history and well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Castel Pergine History

Castel Pergine was built in the 13th century and was owned by the Counts of Austria for quite some time.

Positioned high up on the hill, it was used for guarding the Valsugana valley and the surrounding areas, such as Lago Di Caldonazzo.

The castle was then passed on to the Prince Bishops of Trento in 1521. Then in 1900 it was bought by a German enterprise who decided to completely renovate Castel Pergine and turn it into a hotel and restaurant.
