Benang Stokel & Benang Kelambu Waterfalls In Lombok – A Complete Guide

Benang Stokel & Benang Kelambu Waterfalls are two of the best waterfalls in Lombok. Here’s all you need to know for visiting.

How To Get To Benang Stokel & Benang Kelambu Waterfalls

Benang Stokel & Benang Kelambu are around an hour and a half drive North from Kuta – the main tourist area in Lombok.

We rented scooters for 50,000 IDR a day and chose to explore the middle of Lombok on two wheels.

Drivers are available throughout town to rent daily if you’re not confident on scooters and Benang Stokel & Benang Kelambu are easy to find using the google map below.

Benang Stokel & Benang Kelambu are located within the same park, so if you map to Benang Stokel you’ll arrive at the correct Geo Park.

For those short on time, or that prefer everything to be organised for them, there are some awesome tours on Get Your Guide available to book in advance.

Benang Stokel & Benang Kelambu Entrance Fee

There was a lot of confusion when we arrived at the entrance.

We’d heard from friends it was 30,000 IDR per person to enter, although this wasn’t the case.

There WAS a sign reading “Entrance – 30,000 IDR”.

However there was a payment room at the gate with two locals trying to sell us a guided tour for 80,000 IDR per person.

They were very persistent, and kept pointing to a sign that read ‘foreigners must have a guide’. Although we argued the case that our friends had visited previously without a guide.

We ended up bartering down to 50,000 IDR per person to visit alone.

So just be careful when visiting. If you’re not great at bartering, maybe the best bet is to book a Benang Kelambu and Benang Stokel Waterfalls Trek in advance and avoid the hassle.

We’re all for supporting locals but these guys were definitely trying to rip off tourists.

Best Time To Visit Benang Stokel & Benang Kelambu Waterfalls

The driest months on the island of Lombok are July and August, although the weather is pretty good all year round with a mix of wet and dry as the climate moves towards the drier season.

The peak season for tourists is between May and October and it does get pretty busy.

The waterfalls can get busy at the weekend when a lot of the locals visit. So early on a weekday is the best time to avoid the crowds.

What To Expect At Benang Kelambu Waterfall

After the confusion at the entrance gate we put the bad taste behind us and drove directly to Benang Kelambu.

The furthest from the entrance, but definitely the most magical, Benang Kelambu Waterfall looks like something that belongs in the South American rainforest.

With water seemingly appearing from the bushes and tiers of falls in four different places, it was beautiful.

Some tracks are paved on the way down, but others not, so when there are steep slopes, it can be very slippery and dangerous, especially in the wet season. (October to April)

There are two medium sized pools at the bottom of the falls that have been made for swimming and relaxing in the pit of the natural source. Can it get much more tropical?

What To Expect At Benang Stokel Waterfall

After hanging around at Benang Kelambu for long enough, we headed to Benang Stokel.

Benang Stokel is located right near the entrance and only a short walking distance.

When we arrived, the pool below the falls was very shallow so we were not able to swim like we did in Kelambu. Although the height of the falls were just as impressive. We took some snaps and dunked our feet in then headed out.

As you pass the bridge on the way into the falls, you will pass a jumping spot too.

We didn’t realise until we left because there were some other tourists jumping in. It’s located just to the left of the bridge and stands at around 11 metres.

You may see tourists already taking the leap but if you get there and no ones there, be sure to check the depth of the pool down below before you jump in.

We jumped!..and it was amazing but, please be careful as it can be a tricky climb to get out. There is no ladder, you will have to make your way up the rocks to reach the top again.
