Bangkang Cave is an underground Lombok bat cave like no other. With light rays that will blow your mind, here’s a guide to visiting.
How To Get To Bangkang Cave Lombok
Bangkang Cave, or Goa Bangkang Prabu as the locals call it, is around a 10 minute drive from Kuta.
Kuta is the main tourist area in Lombok and there are plenty of fun things to do in the area.
We always choose to rent scooters when exploring Lombok. Which start at around 50,000 IDR per day.
These can usually be rented from your accommodation, or they will at least be able to point you in the right direction.
Another option is to rent a driver, which is pretty popular for day trips around Lombok.
Drivers start at around 500,000 IDR per day (8 hours).
For those short on time, or that prefer everything to be organised for them, there are some awesome tours on Get Your Guide available to book in advance.

Best Time To Visit Bangkang Cave Lombok + Tips
The driest months on the island of Lombok are July and August, although the weather is pretty good all year round with a mix of wet and dry as the climate moves towards the drier season.
The peak season for tourists is between May and October and it does get pretty busy.
Although it’s not one of the most popular tourist destinations in Lombok, Bangkang Cave is still worth checking out for a unique and cool experience.
You probably won’t want to spend too long in the cave because the heat and smoke gets a little too much.
Don’t wear your best clothes as the smell from the cave lingers and you may also get hit by bat droppings!
The best time to catch the perfect sun rays is around 12pm. Although it is pretty warm in the cave at this time of day.
What To Pack
What To Expect At The Bangkang Cave Lombok
We’d only seen a couple of photos of Bangkang Cave online and knew it was somewhat of an undiscovered destination on Lombok. So we decided to try and find it.
Our mission began from Kuta at around 11am. We headed west following ‘maps.me’ to a location appropriately named ‘Mystical Neverland Bat Cave’.
If you don’t keep your eyes peeled it’s easily missed. From the road it appears to be just a pile of rubble.
Luckily we spotted the ‘Mystical Neverland Bat Cave’ sign and from there a local lead us down to the bat cave.
Considering we only paid 10,000 IDR for Kelingking Beach (one of the most touristic spots in Bali), 60,000 IDR per person to enter Bangkang Cave seemed a bit steep.
However, we couldn’t miss this unique experience and went ahead and paid it!

Inside The Lombok Bat Cave
Inside the cave was somewhat smokey as the locals burn coconut husks in order to accentuate the sun rays that beam down into the cave.
The sound coming from all the bats was also quite eery but the magical bamboo stairway leading down and the incredible rays of light shining into the cave were pretty spectacular.
There were thousands of bats in the cave along with quite a lot of smoke coming from the burning coconut husks. So we shot photos and made videos until we couldn’t take the humidity and smoke any longer.
Although it’s not one of the most popular tourist destinations in Lombok, Bangkang Cave is still worth checking out for a unique and cool experience.
We’ll never forget the incredible sun rays and the smell that took weeks to get out of our clothes!
