Arte Sella is an impressive natural open air museum, displaying 3D designs made from rocks, leaves, branches and trunks. Here’s all the info for visiting.
How To Get To Arte Sella
Arte Sella, or Associazione Arte Sella as it’s known locally, is located in the region of Val di Sella.
Just a 30 minute drive from Levico Terme, or a 40 minute drive from Caldonazzo, it’s accessible along the SP40 highway.
As you arrive, car parks are located along the SP40 highway from the information point of Arte Sella at ‘Ristorante Al Legno’.
We recommend renting a car for your entire Italy trip. That way you can pick up the car from the airport and explore the region at ease. Also, another option is of course a private taxi to Arte Sella.
For those short on time, or that prefer everything to be organised for them, there are some awesome tours on Get Your Guide available to book in advance.

Best Time To Visit Arte Sella
Summer is probably the best time to visit this outdoor museum not only for the warm weather but also as this is when the most events and creative workshops take place.
However, it is said that it is still worth visiting during the autumn/winter months as an ‘almost magical atmosphere pervades the woods and the entire Art in Nature route!’.
Consequently, you can expect a different experience during every season of the year!
It’s a pretty easy walk through the woods but comfortable shoes are recommended.
What To Pack
What To Expect At Arte Sella Open Air Museum
Inspiring artwork created through the use of nature, displayed in its natural habitat!
Arte Sella is an international exhibition of contemporary art that was first set up in 1986. Uniquely, it takes place in the open air of the fields and woods of Val di Sella.
A popular thing to do in Valsugana, the artworks on display are mostly 3D designs, created by artists from around the world.
Furthermore, many of the artists do not charge for their time as they feel it’s such a privilege to be able to showcase their work on the Arte Sella grounds!
The majority of work on display is made from rocks, leaves, branches or trunks. Therefore you rarely come across anything made of artificial objects, materials or colours.
Interestingly, when the exhibition closes, many of the artworks are left in the woods, where they end up taking part in the life-cycle.
However, others are placed into museums, art galleries or show rooms in Italy or abroad.
Whilst you are walking around the grounds, be sure to read the plaques as you pass to give yourself more information on the detailed art concepts.
Overall Arte Sella describes itself as:
‘A unique creative process, that in a journey of thirty years has seen various meetings of an artistic nature, different inspirations and sensitivities accumulated from a desire to continue a dialogue between creativity and the natural world.’
