If you want to experience a unique waterfall that you can actually drive your car though, Anjos Waterfall in Madeira is definitely it. Here’s a complete guide.

From Ponta do Sol take the old road up through the tunnel near to the beach and you will shortly come to the waterfall.

It is possible to get the Line 80 bus from Funchal to Anjos Waterfall. This costs between 2-4 euros and takes about 1 hour 30 minutes.

Best Time To Visit Anjos Waterfall

Anjos Waterfall is quite popular with tourists, so getting there early or later in the day is recommended if you like to avoid the crowds.

However, this is not a busy road and the people you meet along it will pretty much all be there to enjoy the waterfall.

During the warmer months would be a good time to visit if you fancy taking a refreshing shower in this beautiful, but cold, waterfall!

August and September are the hottest months of the year in Madeira. Although Madeira has a sub-tropical climate that offers sunshine throughout the year.

After a downpour of rain, the flow of water cascading over the rocks will be at its most spectacular.

However, check if the road is open before visiting, as it can sometimes be closed due to rockfalls, especially after very heavy rains. They do usually try to get the road opened as soon as possible once it is safe.

The road can get a little muddy and slippery sometimes, so take care and wear appropriate footwear.

What To Expect At Anjos Waterfall In Madeira

Anjos Waterfall is also known as Cascata dos Anjos, meaning Waterfall of Angels and is the outflow of a Levada ( a human-made irrigation channel) from the mountain.

Just a short drive from Ponta do Sol, this aptly named waterfall, cascades down a sheer rock face onto the old highway E R 101 road and then continues on down into the sea below.

The road is quite narrow where the waterfall is and there is not anywhere to stop if there is other traffic.

Therefore, you may just want to drive through the waterfall and get a free, natural car wash!

Alternatively, you can park a little way back from the falls and walk up and enjoy a unique, refreshing shower!

This spectacularly unique waterfall is one of the most photographed waterfalls on the island and definitely worth taking the time to visit.

I’d personally say one of the coolest things to do in Madeira.
